Fifteen schools in Pretoria will once again take on each other in a competition organised and sponsored by the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, to be held on the TUT rugby field, Pretoria Campus, from 08:00 to 12:00 on Friday, 15 May 2009.
he competition, which has been an annual campus event for the past five years, is aimed at popularising mathematics and science with high school learners and identifying promising students to offer them opportunities for further developing their talents.
Zelda Janse van Rensburg, Faculty Marketer for Engineering and the Built Environment, says she is excited about the competition.” We want students to be aware of the importance of mathematics and science and of the different fields offered in engineering,” she explained.
The departments involved are Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Building Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
“We expect 345 students, accompanied by their teachers, to participate in the competition, where interesting prizes can be won,” Zelda added. | |
