Prof Ben van Wyk, Associate Dean; Prof Fred Otieno, Executive Dean; Dr Josiah Adeyemo; Dr George Ochieng, Section Head Civil Engineering; Thomas Olwal; and Onyeka Nkwonta. | Professor Fred Otieno, Executive Dean, said he challenged postgraduate students to publish papers in journals last year and many took up to the challenge and delivered outstanding results. “This is a rare case in the academic arena. These students managed to publish a total of 11 papers in a year. We, as the faculty, are extremely proud of their hard work”, he said excitedly.
The supervisors were very impressed with Dr Josiah Adeyemo who published five papers in journals. He was awarded a first prize of R7 500. At second place, Onyeka Nkwonta, a master’s student, walked away with R5 000 for publishing four papers. The third prize of R2 500 went to Thomas Olwal, also a master’s student who published two papers in journals.
Dr Josiah Adeyemo said he was extremely grateful to TUT for making his dreams reachable. “I managed to get my doctorate in less than three years and all credit goes to the faculty for supporting us throughout without losing hope,” he said.
“People should watch this space for more good things to come,” said Prof Ben van Wyk, Associate Dean and Supervisor to Thomas Olwal. He added that it was not difficult to give support to individuals who were dedicated and unswerving beyond measure like the three |
