tsc looks at international collaboration 04-05-2007
department:  Chemical and Metallurgical Engineeirng contact person:

Acting manger of the Technology Station in Chemicals (TSC) based at the Soshanguve Campus, Vincent Tau, is currently on a Field Trip to Germany to acquire manufacturing skills and to establish technical collaboration with technological centers in Europe.

As a result of the speciality skills in manufacturing cosmetics, water/oil paints and detergents attached to the TSC at present, SASOL is also considering to build a technology hub at the station to train SMEs on producing special domestic and industrial cleaning reagents. Discussions about the modalities and infrastructure development depend on the completion of the in-house rehabilitation program at the TSC.

The TSC, which operates within the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, offers a range of services to Small and Medium Enterprises, or the so-called SMEs.

First and foremost, the station focuses on disseminating popular manufacturing technologies to SMEs for capacity building. The station is an important player in the technology transfer chain of the University and chemical engineering in particular.

From a training perspective, the TSC provides opportunities for in-service training for chemistry and chemical engineering diploma students, as well as the re-training of SMEs staff. Academic lecturers from the department participate in product improvement research activities of the TSC, in line with client specifications.
